Production for the sixth and final season of HBO drama "Girls" is in full swing, and a new male character has been confirmed to join the cast.

"The Americans" star Matthew Rhys is the show's latest addition, but his character description is yet to be announced. During a recent joint interview with his on- and off-screen partner Keri Russell, Rhys shared his thoughts on joining the coming-of-age series with a role far from what he usually plays. As an actor, he believes that it is important to be versatile in the industry. "Well, yeah, that's a prime example of our show [opening doors. Lena Dunham] watches it and goes, 'Oh, come and do this.' It's a total departure, and that's what you always want," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Last month, Dunham reportedly made a short trip to Florida not only to unwind but also to film some scenes for season 6. The actress posted snapshots of her in the water with the #girlsdoesflorida hashtag. Her co-stars Zosia Mamet, Adam Driver, Jemima Kirke and Allison Williams remained silent in their social media accounts and were not seen in the photos. However, it may be a clue that she is with them to shoot scenes in the area.

Earlier this year, star/creator Dunham confirmed in a radio interview that season 6 will mark the end of the series. "[Season 6] is the way that we're thinking about it right now and we're starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women," she said (via E! News). "I started working on this show when I was 23, and now I'm going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world."

Catch the season 6 premiere of "Girls" sometime next year on HBO.
