'Girl Meets World' season 4 news, updates: Rowan Blanchard talks possible renewal, shares reason behind creation of Riley-Lucas-Maya love triangle

Disney still has yet to decide on the fate of hit family sitcom "Girl Meets World," leading many viewers to speculate that the show might be axed by the network.

Even though Disney consistently said that they would wait until the end of the year to decide on the show's fate, multiple reports claim that "Girl Meets World" might finally be canceled after its three-year run.

Since the sitcom features a coming of age storyline, it will obviously lead to more matured themes as the years go by. As the young cast members continue to grow, so will their character complexities as well as the plot theme. Disney, however, targets a younger demographic and the evolving storyline might become less interesting for the network's target audience. This could be a huge deciding factor on whether the show gets a renewal or not.

Lead star Rowan Blanchard, who plays the role of Riley Matthews in the series, recently sat down in an interview with SheKnows to share her thoughts on the possibility of a fourth season. "I know as much as you do," she said. "We are hoping for a Season 4, obviously, because we want to continue our story, and I feel like it's an important story to tell. But as of right now, we just finished [filming] Season 3 and we're still waiting on the word. But we do have more episodes coming out this year that air into early 2017, so we're covered for a little bit."

Speaking on the Riley-Lucas-Maya love triangle, the 14-year-old explained it was just a metaphor to highlight the most important relationship in the program: Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Riley's friendship. She stressed that the conflict was added as a way to tell viewers that the two best friends "will never let a boy get between them."

Disney is expected to announce the renewal/cancellation of "Girl Meets World" sometime around December 2016.
