'Girl Meets World' season 3 spoilers: Riley and her friends' high school life, series to transfer to freeform?

Disney

With the conclusion of "Girl Meets World" season 2, the next chapter of the series will put focus on the high school life of Riley and the rest of her friends. As the story progressess and the characters mature, viewers are speculating that Disney's "Girl Meets World" will be better suited to the teen-friendly Freeform (ABC Family).

Showrunner Michael Jacobs recently caught up with The Wrap, and he shared how the teen characters of the show will deal with certain issues that most people their age go through. As the characters embark on a new chapter in their life, the coming of age series will see how the characters get adjusted to high school."High school is the most confusing, awful, terrible and ultimately – if you do it right – wonderful springboard into college and the rest of your life," Jacobs said.

The series creator also mentioned of the central love triangle involivng Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lucas (Peyton Meyer). Since the season 2 finale was not able to answer which girl Lucas gets to be with, Jacobs said that it will be resolved in the third season. "This will be answered in Season 3. It will span probably a third to a half of Season 3. Not as primary focus, but always as an underlying thing in existence for the characters. And then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it in a way that shows an answer to a much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships? What is the value of them? And what are our friendships, really? If the audience perceives that what we're talking about is 14-year olds in love, they have missed what we're doing entirely. All of this will explain itself as part of the season."

In terms of the show's transfer to Freeform, fans are openly expressing their concern on how the series will fare if it remains in the Disney network. The online petition in Change.org to move "Girl Meets World" to Freeform has already gathered over 3,000 signatures and counting. As of the moment, Disney has yet to address the issue.

On Nov. 25, 2015, the third season of "Girl Meets World" was announced, along with production to begin in January 2016. The premiere date was confirmed to be this spring 2016.
