'Girl Meets World' season 3 spoilers news: Season to resolve love triangle; new title intro pays homage to 'BMW'

The third season of Disney Channel's "Girl Meets World" will resolve the long-simmering love triangle between the show's main characters, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), and Lucas (Peyton Meyer).

The second season of the coming-of-age sitcom concluded the trio's middle school adventures and left BFFs Riley and Maya preparing to enter the terrifying world of high school. It did not, however, have Lucas making the decision as to which girl he should be with, and left that plot point through a major cliffhanger, disappointing many of the show's fans.

By the end of the second season, Riley, Maya and Lucas were as confused as ever about their feelings for each other.

The show's problematic central love triangle will nevertheless soon be sorted out, "Girl Meets World" showrunner and creator Michael Jacobs has said.

In an interview with The Wrap back in March, Jacobs promised that the love triangle will be settled in the upcoming season.

"It will span probably a third to a half of Season 3," he said. "Not as primary focus, but always as an underlying thing in existence for the characters."

The "Girl Meets World" boss also previewed the major transition happening in the third season, saying that while there was a major shift between the first and second seasons, there will be an even bigger shift between the second season and the third.

"I think high school is the most confusing, awful, terrible and ultimately — if you do it right — wonderful springboard into college and the rest of your life," Jacobs explained.

"These are the episodes I want you to remember and we're trying to do our best," he added.

Meanwhile, the Disney series is reportedly getting a makeover for its new season, beginning with a brand new title intro that echoes that of "Boy Meets World," the '90s sitcom on which the show is based.

While it still features "Take On the World," the same song from seasons 1 and 2, the season 3 opening credits throws it back to "Boy Meets World" with a semi-recreation of that show's title intro. Some of the shots in the new "GMW" opener are almost identical to those in the "BMW" opening credits, including the popcorn throwing, the water bucket antics, and the sandwiched kisses.

"Boy Meets World" star Ben Savage, who also appears in "Girl Meets World," directed the new title intro.

"Girl Meets World" debuts its season 3 with a two-part premiere. Part 1 airs June 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Part 2 airs June 5 at 8:30 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel.
