'Girl Meets World' season 3 release date, spoilers news: Special two-night premiere confirmed; creator teases huge 'shift' when the teens go to high school

Disney's hit family sitcom "Girl Meets World" comes back to the small screen for its third season this coming June, and new episodes will feature a much different theme as the teens enter the bigger world of high school. TheWrap exclusively reported that over the first weekend in June, Disney will air the first two episodes of season 3. According to the media outlet, the special two-night premiere will be split into two parts. "Girl Meets High School Part One" airs June 3, Friday at 8:30 p.m. EST while the second part airs on June 5, Sunday at 8:30 p.m. EST.
Season 3 will see Riley and her friends embark on a new adventure as they go to high school, and fans can expect more mature issues to be tackled featuring real-life problems most teenagers face. Creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs previously discussed the changes they had to make in the series, particularly in the plot. "I think there was a big shift between Year 1 and Year 2," he said. "I think there will be a bigger shift between Year 2 and Year 3 ... I think high school is the most confusing, awful, terrible and ultimately — if you do it right — wonderful springboard into college and the rest of your life."
In terms of the heavier subjects which the plot will shed light on, Jacob explained that the show will mature in some way, but they will always keep in mind that a lot of younger viewers patronize the show as well. "As long as this show runs on Disney Channel, we want to honor the people who invited us to play at their house," said the EP. "They've been very good to us, and they have let us push the envelope about as much as they have. We will tackle heavier subjects, and we will explore them, but we will also honor the fact that our demographic starts at 6 years old."
"Girl Meets World" season 3 officially airs June 27, Monday on the Disney Channel.
