'Girl Meets World' season 3 release date, plot spoilers: Teens to face more mature issues as they enter high school

Disney

Disney's "Girl Meets World" will soon return to the small screens for its third season, and it will feature Riley and her friends as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. The network has yet to announce an official premiere date for the show, but it is speculated to be around June 2016. Significant changes might be seen in the upcoming season since it will focus on more mature aspects given that the teens are now in high school.

The first promo clip for the season has been released, and it featured the teens dealing with drama on their first day of school. Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lucas Friar (Peyton Meyer) will explore life after middle school, and their friendship will definitely be tested. Before the class starts, Riley is seen talking to Maya, saying, "Promise me that no matter what happens, we'll always stick together" before a huge stream of students knocks them out the way. The video also featured Lucas speaking to Riley, stating, "You are just too much for me, Riley." Meanwhile, Riley's parents Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) remain to be supportive of their daughter, continuing to guide her and her friends in their new journey.

The much-talked about love triangle involving Riley, Lucas and Maya is speculated to be explored in next season's storyline. Showrunner Michael Jacobs explained how they will put the concept of love in the show, but it will not feature a love triangle. "Every episode is titled 'Girl Meets" something," he told The Wrap. "If we did 'Girl Meets Love,' it would not be one episode. It would be a sustained series of episodes in an attempt to explain, for this generation, what the perception of love is, versus what love may actually be, versus are we ready for that at all?"

Jacobs also stressed that they want to convey their message in the best possible way they know, and a love triangle is far from being tackled. "Something that is so important cannot be something we tell in one story," the EP mentioned. "But the understanding of how to grow and what's valuable to these kids will manifest itself over these episodes. We want to do it intelligently, and what we're not looking to do is a love triangle."

The two-part premiere of "Girl Meets World" season 3 airs June on Disney. The exact date is yet to be revealed.
