'Girl Meets World' renewal possibility teased by series showrunner

Will a new network renew \"Girl Meets World\" after season 3? | Disney Channel

After fans received the heartbreaking news that their favorite "Girl Meets World" series has been canceled by Disney Channel after three seasons, showrunner Michael Jacobs may be hinting that the show could still have a chance for season 4.

The cancellation of the coming-of-age series prompted the fans to launch several online petitions for other networks and online streaming service providers like Netflix and Hulu to pick up the fourth season of "Girl Meets World." But based on Jacobs' latest statement in an interview with The Wrap, the clamor for series renewal might be working for the show.

"We are certainly having discussions, there are some interested platforms," the showrunner said.

Jacobs also believed that the series should still have a fourth season to be able to provide a proper closure for Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and her friends. "I thought we would be able to tell stories through four seasons. That's the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end," he also stated.

The showrunner also revealed that the decision about the fate of "Girl Meets World" could be made within the next two months. According to Jacobs, it could be impossible not to hear any information about the final decision about the series renewal after three to four months. He even claimed that any announcement could be made sooner than that.

But while waiting for the series renewal in another network, Disney Channel will still air the last two episodes of "Girl Meets World" season 3.

The series finale titled "Girl Meets Goodbye" will feature one of "Boy Meets World" fan-favorite character Mr. Feeney, portrayed by William Daniels. Mr. Feeney will reportedly give Riley's mother Topanga (Danielle Fishel) a very important career advice that will affect her and the rest of the family.

The series finale of "Girl Meets World" will air on Disney Channel on Friday, Jan. 20.
