'Gears of War 4' gameplay, release date news: First 20 minutes of gameplay revealed in prologue
The development team for the fourth installment of the "Gears of War" franchise recently dropped a trailer for the upcoming game, showcasing the first 20 minutes of core gameplay.
At the beginning of the clip, The Coalition's studio head Rod Fergusson and lead campaign designer Matt Searcy revealed that they intended to create prologue to take players back in time to witness key battles that will reintroduce a few mechanics to returning players and new players to the franchise.
The trailer revealed the story behind the Locust war and the battle at Aspho Fields. In addition, Marcus Fenix, who was the protagonist of the first three "Gears of War" titles, had his story of battle and of settling down reiterated. After years of battle, Marcus settled down and raised a family. Twenty-five year later, his son JD will take on his father's part to defeat vile monsters that are about to annihilate humanity.
JD, along with Kait and Del, will seek to defeat a new enemy called The Swarm. The Horde mode will allow players to create teams of five to fight the main enemies of the game. In this particular mode, players will assume a particular character class which ultimately determines their role in the team and their gameplay. The following classes are: soldier, sniper, engineer, scout and heavy.
Horde mode will have a feature called a Fabricator, which will grant players the opportunity to build defenses anywhere in the map. In addition, Gear Cards will be introduced in the game. The cards are perks which players can use to improve their stats.
Gamers who will pre-order the title will receive "Brothers to the End" elite gear pack which consists of exclusive character and weapon skins. Meanwhile pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition of the title will grant gamers the privilege of playing the game four days prior to its release. Hence, players who buy the Ultimate Edition can start playing on the seventh of Oct.
"Gears of War 4" is expected to premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 11, for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One.
