A lot of huge and shocking events have unfolded in the sixth season of "Game of Thrones." However, the viewers can expect a lot more of those scenes that will put them on the edge of their seats, jump-packed into one single chapter for the upcoming seventh season. This is due to the recent confirmation by a head HBO executive that the highly popular fantasy series based on "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series by George R. R. Martin will be ending by Season 8. This means that there are only limited episodes left to show the fate of all the living main characters of the series thus far.

According to Entertainment Weekly the reporter James Hibberd asked the new HBO president for TV programming, Casey Bloys, regarding the future of "Game of Thrones." There have been long-standing rumors that the series will in fact end by the eighth season, and last Saturday at the Television Critics Association's press tour, Bloys confirmed that Season 8 is indeed the very last for "Game of Thrones."

"Game of Thrones" executive producers and showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, are said to be aware of this plan, as what Bloys revealed during the event.

"Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do. Believe me, as the new (programming executive) coming in, if I could get them to do more, I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do (as) the best version of the show," said Bloys as quoted by Den of Geek.

Both Benioff and Weiss have already revealed in the past month that they are only planning to write 13 more episodes after the Season 6 finale. This means that there will only be seven episodes for Season 7, and the remaining six will be shown in the last season in 2018.

This would also suggest that the upcoming new season will be concentrated with shocking revelations and twists. There are quite a number of confirmations that need to happen before the series culminates in Season 8, such as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) being introduced as the nephew of Ned Stark (Sean Penn) and not his actual bastard son. There are rumors about his lineage that may be Lyanna Stark's child with the Mad King Targaryen's prince, making Jon one of the possible heir of the House Targaryen beside Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).
