The latest episode of HBO's hit fantasy drama "Game of Thrones" season 6 saw the deaths of several important characters.

At Riverrun, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) allowed Brienne (Gwendoline Christie), his former traveling companion, to negotiate with the Blackfish (Clive Russell) and to ask him to leave peacefully and take the Tully army to Winterfell. The Blackfish, stubborn as ever, refuses, but helps Brienne and Pod (Daniel Portman) escape. Though his death is not shown, it is later revealed that the Blackfish perished in the fight with the Lannister army.

In Braavos, Arya (Maisie Williams) finally corners the Waif (Faye Marsay) in a chamber, where they battle in complete darkness. Later, Jaqen H'ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) finds the Waif's bloody face on the wall at the House of Black and White. He turns around and finds Arya, who informs him that she is going home.

In King's Landing, Cersei's (Lena Headey) creepy reanimated bodyguard Robert Strong (Hafthor Bjornsson) rips the head off one of the Faith Militant. In a different part of Westeros, the Hound (Rory McCann) tracks down the men who killed Brother Ray (Ian McShane) and his followers and kills them.

In a decidedly dark and bloody episode, the emotional reunion between Jaime and Brienne, who have a very complicated history, was a breath of fresh air.

"It's a great scene," Coster-Waldau told Entertainment Weekly. "These characters are so much about holding their cards so close to their chest, and they don't want to reveal how they're feeling."

Nonetheless, the actor says that the moment is more than just about "two knights meeting," though, as he also said, the two "would never acknowledge that."

According to Christie, who said that she was excited about the scene, "It was really fun to be with Nikolaj again, and I thought the way in which their reunion happens is not really expected."

"And what I love about the end of this scene is there's some heartbreak," Coster-Waldau added. "Because, once again, they were close. But are they ever gonna be able to talk about something other than someone else's agenda?"

"Game of Thrones" season 6 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
