The fifth season of "Game of Thrones" is shaping up to be quite different from the previous ones. Members of the press who recently got to view the first four episodes described it as "bloodier" with several characters dying on screen even though they remain alive in the books.

In the first episode which aired last Sunday, April 12, on HBO, a major difference from the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" was noticed when Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds) was killed. In the books, he remains alive and Rattleshirt is "glamored" by Melisandre (Carice van Houten) to look like Mance and is burnt as the stake.

In the upcoming episodes, Sansa (Sophie Turner) disguised as Alayne Stone will return to Winterfell and meet Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), which is something that never happened in the books.

In King's Landing, the second episode of the season will see a message delivered to Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) saying that Myrcella is facing danger in Dorne. This will anger Cersei and will cause Jaime to travel to Dorne where he will presumably have to fight the three daughters of Oberyn Martell who are known as the "Sand Snakes."

As for Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), it appears that after she reopens the fighting pits there will be a bloody confrontation with the group calling themselves the "Sons of Harpy" which will lead to the deaths of Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney) and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson).

At the Wall, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) rises in his position in the Night's Watch and is set to take over as Lord Commander. There are indications that Melisandre will become very interested in him and even try to seduce him.

Jon will head to Hardhome and probably battle some Wights and White Walkers.

New York Daily News said there are indications one of the characters will encounter a "tragic twist" which could revolve around Jon.
