In the realm of budget smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A5 and the HTC One Mini 2 are both great offerings. But when it comes to a comparison of specs, the recently released device from Samsung narrowly beats its rival.
Design
The Galaxy A5 is major improvement on the previous plastic-clad devices from Samsung as it has a metal unibody and a smooth finish. As for the One Mini 2, it also has a brushed metal body that makes the device look expensive. But in a major deviation from the bigger One (M8), the One Mini 2 has polycarbonate lining its edges which join the front of the phone to the back.
Display
The Galaxy A5 has a 5.0-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 294 pixels per inch, while the One Mini 2 has a super LCD2 screen measuring 4.5 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch.
Platform
The One Mini 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. As for the Galaxy A5, it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU. Both devices are powered by the Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
Memory
The memory slot on the One Mini 2 supports addition of up to 128 GB of external memory, while that of the Galaxy A5 supports up to 64 GB. In terms of RAM, the Galaxy A5 comes with 2 GB while its HTC competitor has 1 GB.

The One Mini 2 at its full retail price costs $409 while the Galaxy A5 is priced at $537 without a contract.
