'Future Man' release date, plot news: Hulu confirms half-hour comedy starring Josh Hutcherson

A 13-episode half-hour science fiction comedy titled "Future Man" just landed a deal with Hulu.
The comedy show follows the story of Josh Futterman who is going to be portrayed by "The Hunger Games" actor Josh Hutcherson. The actor portrays the lead character Peeta in the film adaptations of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" trilogy. Once again, Hutcherson is thrust in the spotlight. But unlike in the popular trilogy, Hutcherson is portraying the savior in the upcoming show.
Futterman is a janitor by day and a gamer by night. When he gets recruited by some strange visitors, he is thrust into a position in which he has to save mankind from extinction. "Future Man" also features "Happy Endings" alum Eliza Coupe, "Preacher" actor Derek Wilson, "Ghostbusters" actor Ed Begley Jr., and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" actress Glenne Headly.
The show is produced by "Sausage Party" showrunners Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The Canadian-American producers are childhood friends and they have worked together in various other films — "Pineapple Express," "This is the End," and "The Interview," to name a few. This is Rogen and Goldberg's first half-hour TV comedy show. Rogen and Goldberg directed the pilot episode.
Joining the pair in producing the upcoming show are Matt Tolmach and James Weaver. Tolmach produced both movies of "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise and is currently producing the upcoming film reboots "Jumanji" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Weaver, on the other hand, produced both "Neighbors" films which starred Rogen and Zac Efron. He also joined Rogen in "Sausage Party" and in "The Interview."
Furthermore, the story was written by Ariel Shariff and Kyle Hunter, screenplay writers of "Sausage Party" and "The Night Before," and "Misfits" writer Howard Overman. The screenplay was written by Shaffir and Hunter.
"Future Man" is expected to premiere next year.
