'Frozen 2' release date, plot speculations: Will Anna discover her powers?
Recent speculations suggest that Disney will be going dark for "Frozen 2" and that Anna could be the villain in the upcoming movie.
Chief Creative Officer at Walk Disney Animation Studios confirmed at the 2015 shareholders meeting in San Francisco that "Frozen 2" is in the works.
Other than the announcement, Disney has yet to reveal more information about the sequel for the Oscar-winning animated film.
Sources suggest that Anna will attempt to steal the throne from her sister and that she will even try to kill the loveable snowman Olaf in the process. Although there is a lot of talk about a grim sequel, this most likely will not happen. The rumored storylines stray too much from Disney's usual themes.
To note, the original stories of classic Disney princess films often have dark and morbid villains. But Disney presented the protagonists with happily-ever-afters. After decades of doing so, it seems highly unlikely for Disney to go in such a grim direction for "Frozen 2."
Another theory suggests that Anna, like her sister Elsa, has powers that stayed dormant through the years. In the sequel, this will reportedly start to manifest itself. Her power could be the opposite of her sister's. Since Elsa has power over ice, sources think that Anna will have power over fire.
In terms of the princesses' love interests, there are rumors that the evil Hans will appear in the sequel as Elsa's lover. On the other hand, gay activists have reportedly been appealing to Disney to make Elsa a lesbian in the sequel. The theme has reportedly gone viral on Twitter.
Disney has yet to comment on the rumors that have been circulating. Although the company has yet to announce the release date for the show, many expect the film to premiere in 2018.
