With "Frozen 2" looming in the horizon, speculations abound regarding its release date, who among the characters will be returning, who will lend their voices to the characters, and most importantly, the success of the sequel, particularly if it can duplicate or surpass "Frozen's" success.

It was in March 2015 when Disney disclosed via Twitter that "Frozen 2" is in the works.

The animated movie's director, Chris Buck, is well aware that expectations for "Frozen 2" are high especially since the first offering made $1.3 billion in the box office. It was deemed the highest-grossing full-feature animation movie of all time, and according to Telegraph, it has become one of Disney's most stable sources of income, from ticket to merchandise sales.

Very little is being shared regarding the project, but News Every Day said there are rumors that Prince Hans (voiced by Santino Fontana) will be part of "Frozen 2." Whether he ends up being Queen Elsa's (voiced by Idina Menzel) love interest or not is something fans should watch out for.

Other speculations point to a woman villain making life hard for the much-loved characters, and a possible female counterpart for Olaf the Snowman (voiced by Josh Gad) in the sequel.

Menzel recently revealed through E! News that "Frozen 2" is now at the writing stage. She also revealed that she will be back to lend her voice to Queen Elsa while Kristen Bell will be lending her voice anew to Anna. As for speculations that Queen Elsa will fall off a cliff and die, it was something Menzel could only joke about.

It remains to be seen if the story would focus on Anna's emotional struggles this time around, since much of "Frozen" focused on Queen Elsa's struggle to keep her powers hidden from the public. Movie News Guide likewise noted that it would be worth anticipating whether Anna and Queen Elsa would have more time together or not, given their limited interaction in the first film.

An early 2017 release date is expected for "Frozen 2."
