Franklin Graham Says Ashley Madison Users Can Still Turn to God, Seek Forgiveness
Famed evangelical Franklin Graham has spoken out regarding the recent Ashley Madison hacking scandal, telling users of the extramarital affairs website that they will be forgiven if they seek God's guidance.
Graham, who heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, took to social media recently to discuss the Ashley Madison data reveal, in which the credit cards, emails and addresses of thousands of users of the extramarital affairs site were released.
"[Ashley Madison's] slogan is 'Life is short. Have an affair.' This is partly true — life is short! Much shorter than imagined for some. Tragically, some have committed suicide over the shame and embarrassment of their sin being made public by the hacking and exposure of as many as 37 million of the site's users," Graham wrote on Facebook this week. "The ripple effect of this disclosure has been multi-faceted [sic], including scams and extortion of clients desperate to stop the exposure of their infidelity."
"If you are living in fear because of your sins, I want you to know that your sins can be forgiven," Graham added.
Police in Toronto, Canada have said that at least two suicides have been possibly linked to the recent Ashley Madison data reveal.
Toronto Police Acting Staff Superintendent Bryce Evans has said that the recent data breach affects many who have some connection to the website.
"This hack is one of the largest data breaches in the world," Evans told the Associated Press. "This is affecting all of us. The social impact behind this leak, we're talking about families, we're talking about children, we're talking about wives, their male partners."
