2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been criticized for recent comments he made regarding Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

Trump and Kelly have been in an ongoing feud following the first GOP debate earlier this month, in which Trump accused Kelly of asking him especially difficult questions.

Following the debate, Trump called into CNN to described Kelly as having "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her [...] wherever."

More recently, Trump called the Fox News host a "bimbo," suggesting that a recent 11-day vacation she took was a result of a falling out with Fox News.

Fox News Chief Roger Ailes has since come to Kelly's defense, suggesting that real estate mogul Trump owes the conservative television host an apology.

"Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at FOX News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise," Ailes said in a statement.

"Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should," Ailes said. "We have never been deterred by politicians or anyone else attacking us for doing our job, much less allowed ourselves to be bullied by anyone and we're certainly not going to start now."
