Former Youth Pastor Arrested in New Jersey, Charged with Sexual Assault of Teens
A former youth pastor at a Wyckoff church in New Jersey was arrested by the police and charged with sexual assault and child endangerment on Thursday for having "inappropriate sexual activity" with two 16-year-olds.
Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli identified the suspect as David Hayman, 37, of Oradell, New Jersey. Hayman was arrested by the prosecutor's office Special Victims Unit and Wyckoff Police.
He was charged with two counts of sexual assault and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
His bail was set at $250,000 and with the conditions of no contact with the victims and the surrender of his passport.
"Mr. Hayman was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail," according to the statement by Molinelli.
Molinelli said Hayman had sex and exchanged sexually explicit videos on numerous occasions with two 16-year-old females.
He also exchanged sexually explicit text messages with three females: one 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds.
The victims were members of the Cornerstone Christian Church in Wyckoff where Hayman was a pastor of youth and children's ministries for 10 years. "In that capacity he led a high school aged youth group and was responsible for the oversight of other younger aged youth groups," Molinelli said in a statement.
Hayman was fired from his job in the summer of 2014 "when the church learned of the inappropriate text messages he sent."
It was only recently when the Special Victims Unit and Wyckoff Police received information regarding the identities of the alleged victims.
The victims provided details of what happened when they were interviewed by detectives. The investigation led to the identity of the other victims.
All of the alleged crimes were committed while Hayman was a pastor at the church.
Electronic equipment was seized from the church and Hayman's residence.
