Former N.Y. Giants Safety Says 'Sign From God' Guided Decision to Join Chicago Bears
A well-known NFL safety has said that his decision to switch to the Chicago Bears team during the NFL offseason was ultimately made after he received a "sign from God."
NFL safety Antrel Rolle, who has played for the New York Giants for the past five years, recently told New York's WFAN radio station that during this NFL offseason, he learned that his New York team was not interested in keeping him on for another year, and therefore had to pick between two teams, the Washington Redskins or the Chicago Bears.
Rolle told the radio station that the decision was difficult, and shortly before he had to make a decision on his future team, he prayed to God to give him a sign.
"There were other teams that showed major interest, but what it boiled down to was deciding between the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Bears," Rolle told the radio station. "First and foremost, like I said, I pray a lot and I know all things happen through Christ. I just asked God on Sunday night right before I was going to sleep — I just asked God and said: 'I pray that you just give me a level head. I pray that you just give me a sign to lead me in the right direction and I will follow your lead.'"
Rolle went on to tell an interesting occurrence that happened in the middle of the night while he was sleeping.
"It was Monday morning at 4:33 a.m. I never wake up during the middle of the night and it was 4:33. I got a text or an email to my phone and the email said: 'Orbitz Alert: Flights to Chicago Discount Fare.'"
"I'm like, 'Wow!'" Rolle added. "It just hit."
The NFL safety added that he "never questions God's plans for" himself, and he is prepared to leave New York City for Chicago, although he has come to call the east coast city his home in the past five years.
