Looks like gamers will have to be online at all times if they want to play "For Honor." Earlier this week, talk about the game's always-online requirement started spreading after Twitter user Wario64 spotted an "internet connection required" advisory on the box art of the game. It wasn't confirmed then, and it was possible that the connection was only required for the multiplayer portion of the game or for product activation.

However, Ubisoft community representative UbiJurassic has finally confirmed on NeoGAF that the game has to be connected to the internet at all times.

"We can confirm that For Honor is an always online experience. Some elements of progression, which is hosted online, are shared across story and multiplayer modes. Players will need to be connected to the internet at all times to play For Honor," the developer stated.

GameSpot also said that they have received confirmation from Ubisoft confirming that "For Honor" will require a constant internet connection. Apparently, "For Honor" will have to be online all the time because the game's storyline progression is hosted online. Well, that's a huge blow to gamers who don't have a stable internet connection.

A few months ago, "For Honor" creative director Jason VandenBerghe made this comment regarding the single-player campaign mode.

"We built the campaign so that if you bought the game just for that, that you would be satisfied even if you never went online and played multiplayer. It's intended to be a full experience."

So, what happened to that plan? Ubisoft has been breaking a lot of promises the past few months. First, they announced that the game will support a split-screen co-op mode but they decided to drop it. And now this.

"For Honor" is scheduled to hit the shelves on Feb. 12, 2017. The game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
