Luckily, "Five Nights at Freddy's" creator Scott Cawthon has given fans an update on the much-anticipated "FNaF" film. In May, the "FNaF" boss told fans that the script for the project is still being written.

On a Steam forum, Cawthon responded to a fan's inquiry on how the film is doing, writing: "The script is still being worked on. The people involved are taking the movie seriously, which is definitely a good thing!"

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in April, the "Five Nights at Freddy's" developer/publisher teased that the film will explore a new horror niche that viewers will be able to relate to.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," he said.

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie," Seth Grahame-Smith of KatzSmith Productions told THR.

The "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is currently in production at Warner Bros. Pictures, which has the rights to the popular video game series. Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions are producing the "FNaF" film adaptation along with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment.

Recently, rumors have surfaced that the upcoming film may feature some elements from the recently announced "FNaF" installment, "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location."

According to The Bitbag, now that the new game has overtaken the production on the "FNaF" film and is about to be released, Cawthon might just borrow some characters, storylines, and settings from "Sister Location" to use in the feature film.

No official release date has been announced for the "Five Nights at Freddy's" film adaptation.
