A recent report indicates that the police officer involved in the shooting of an 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri back in August is expected to quit the force. The report also states that Ferguson's police chief will also resign, although this claim has been denied by city officials.

A source close to the situation recently told MSNBC News that Officer Darren Wilson, who fatally shot unarmed teen Michael Brown back in August, is expected to be "eased out" of the department.

The report stated that while Wilson will be "eased out" and may even resign, it also claimed that Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson would also resign, a claim that was refuted by the Ferguson Police Department via Twitter following the anonymous source's claims.

"Ferguson Chief says he has not resigned, he has not been told to resign. He has not been fired. If he leaves, it will be his choice alone," the Ferguson Police Department said via Twitter on Thursday.

Both the police chief and the city's mayor have told multiple media outlets that the recent report is not true. "Nobody in my chain of command has asked me to resign, nor have I been terminated," Jacskon told CNN on Thursday.

"People have been saying that for months, I mean for him to step down. But we've stood by him this entire time. So there is no change on that," Ferguson Mayor James Knowles added to the media outlet.

A grand jury is supposed to announce in the coming weeks whether officer Darren Wilson will face criminal charges for shooting Brown. Police claim that Wilson was attack by Brown and pushed into his cop car before the officer's gun was discharged.
