The father of Londoner Mohammed Emwazi, suspected of being the Islamic State militant "Jihadi John," has said there is no proof that his son is the same man who has appeared in several videos created by the terrorist organization, beheading people.

A recent report released by British intelligence indicates that Emwazi, a member of a well-off London family, is the "Jihadi John" featured in several Islamic State videos who threatens viewers before beheading hostages, who are often American or British.

Emwazi is suspected of growing up in London and even obtaining a college degree before leaving Europe to join the Islamic State, but his father, Jassem Emwazi, recently told the Kuwaiti newspaper al Qabas that there is no proof his son is the murderer featured in the graphic videos.

"There is nothing that proves what is being circulated in the media, especially through video clips and footage, that the accused is my son Mohammed, who is being referred to as the alleged executioner" of the Islamic State, the father said.

Lawyers representing Jessem have also argued that there is no evidence confirming that "Jihadi John" is Emwazi, adding that his face is covered in most of the beheading videos posted by the Islamic State.

"There's no evidence this is his son," lawyer Fahd Khaled Aba Alkhail told NBC News. "His face is covered. We cannot know [...]This is all false accusation."

"Maybe the name here is correct but the face is not," attorney Salem al-Hashash added.
