Vin Diesel had to choke back his tears when he delivered a speech to introduce "Furious 7" during an exclusive screening at a Los Angeles theater recently. The movie will be out in cinemas on April 3.

Making a surprise appearance onstage before the movie was screened, Diesel became emotional when he recounted memories of his co-star and friend, Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in November 2013.

The next instalment of the street racing franchise is Walker's last appearance as law enforcement officer Brian O'Connor.

"This was a labor of love. It was some ways the hardest movie I ever had to do because the relationships that you see on the film are so real," Diesel said.

"When the tragedy happened, I lost my best friend. I lost my brother," the actor went on in a video posted on The Hollywood Reporter.

Talking about Walker's death, the action star suddenly fell silent, stopping in mid-sentence, amid cheers of support from fans who attended the first screening of the film in California on March 16 this year.

"What can I say, guys? Thanks for being my family," he said as soon as he regained composure, dedicating "the best" of the Fast & Furious franchise "for his brother."

Diesel made the surprise appearance after failing to attend the film's premiere earlier this month at South by Southwest because his girlfriend was about to give birth.

To keep his friendship with Walker alive, the 47-year-old actor revealed that he named his new daughter Pauline after Walker's first name.

"He was in the room. There's no other person that I'm thinking about as I'm cutting the umbilical cord," Diesel said, according to Entertainment Tonight.

"I knew he was there and I felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my memory, a part of my world," he added.

Pauline is Diesel's third child with Paloma Jimenez.

The 40-year-old Walker was killed when the car he was riding as a passenger crashed in Santa Clarita, California, in November 2013.
