'Fargo' season 3 news, updates: 'Halt and Catch Fire' star Scoot McNairy joins cast for recurring role

The impressive cast lineup for FX's critically-acclaimed anthology drama "Fargo" just got bigger, with Scoot McNairy joining the series for a recurring role.
On the red carpet at Sunday's Emmy Awards, showrunner/creator Noah Hawley announced that the "Halt and Catch Fire" actor will join the program. Despite confirming that he is set to recur, Hawley did not reveal anything about McNairy's role.
Over the past six years, McNairy has appeared in numerous outstanding feature films including "Monsters," "Killing Them Softly"," Argo," "12 Years a Slave" "Frank," 'Gone Girl" and "Batman v Superman." His other future acting credits include Netflix film "War Machine" wIth Brad Pitt, action film "478," "The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter" and TV program "Godless."
Last week, Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been tapped to portray the female lead opposite Ewan McGregor. The "BrainDead" actress will play the role of an attractive and crafty recent parolee named Nikki Swango, who is passionate about competitive bridge playing. Nikki is determined to always keep one step ahead of her enemies.
According to TV Line, season 3 will center on twin brothers, both portrayed by McGregor. Emmit, the older brother, is a handsome and charming real-estate magnate also known as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. Ray, on the other hand, is Emmit's complete opposite. He is a flabby parole officer who blames Emmit for all his misfortunes in life. Back in July, it was announced that "The Leftovers" star Carrie Coon will join the cast as the Eden valley police chief Gloria.
The showrunner previously confirmed that there will be no returning characters from the first installment. "None of the main characters from our first year will be back for our third year," Hawley told The Hollywood Reporter.
Production is scheduled to begin sometime later this year, and the third season of "Fargo" is slated to premiere on 2017. The network has yet to announce a definitive air date.
