'Fargo' season 3 air date, cast news 2016: Scoot McNairy joins season 3

At the 2016 Emmy Awards, showrunner Noah Hawley revealed that a familiar face will be joining the cast in the third season of FX network's comedy crime drama series "Fargo."

Hawley announced at the Emmys red carpet that "Halt and Catch Fire" actor Scoot McNairy will officially be a member of the cast starting next season. The actor will have a recurring role; however, details about his character have yet to be revealed.

The third season will be set relatively closer to the present compared to the first two seasons of the show. Sources said that the show will be set around 2010. To note, the first season was set in 2006. It featured Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton. In the succeeding season, viewers were brought back to 1979 with a new set of talents starring Jesse Plemons, Patrick Wilson and Kirsten Dunst.

For the upcoming season, Ewan McGregor will be portraying brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit, the older one, is a good-looking real estate magnate who is described to be sort of similar to the parking lot king of Minnesota. Meanwhile, the slightly younger Ray is a chubby parole officer who believes that his brother caused his sad and uneventful life.

A significant number of the cast has yet to be announced. But "The Leftovers" alum Carrie Coon will be portraying a new character named Gloria. She will be the chief of the Eden Valley Police.

Furthermore, "BrainDead" alum Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been confirmed as a series regular starting season 3. The actress will be portraying a fascinating parolee who has a penchant for competitive bridge playing. Winstead will portray a character named Nikki Swango.

Sources reported that production for the third season is expected to begin this year. The third season is expected to premiere in 2017.
