'Extant' Season 2 Cast Spoilers, Latest News: From Governor to General - David Morrissey Joins CBS Sci-Fi Drama

David Morrissey, who played the Governor in the hit post-apocalyptic television series "The Walking Dead," is set to play the part of a general as he joins Halley Berry in CBS' science fiction drama "Extant."
Morrissey has signed up in the astronaut drama to play the role of General Tobias Shepherd, chief of the global security commission in Extant universe, Den of Geek! reported on Tuesday.
Shepherd is "a celebrated general [who is], charming, political, known and respected for making the tough calls of wartime, and standing by them — even when they are morally ambiguous," Den of Geek! said. "He's a loose cannon, but boy does he get results," the online source added.
Morissey's character has a personal past with Molly Woods, Berry's character. Their history together "apparently could endanger professional and personal relationships for The General," Den of Geek! Said.
Berry's character, meanwhile, is an astronaut who finds out that she has unintentionally put the human race on the path to destruction following her return from a mission, Variety wrote. However, Woods may be humanity's only hope for survival, said The Wrap. Another complication: Woods discovers that she is pregnant after the year-long solo mission in space.
Diehard fans of British science fiction series "Doctor Who" will recognize Morrissey as the "eponymous red herring" in the series special "The Next Doctor." Morrissey played as Jackson Lake in that series before accepting the role of The Governor in "The Walking Dead."
Another actor joining the cast of "Extant" is Jeffrey Dean Morgan who will play the part of J.D. Richter, "a roguish womanizer and a cop of the future" who "is freewheeling, hard-drinking and fearless, bordering on reckless, mostly because he's got nothing to lose."
The new cast is part of the reshuffle for Season 2 of "Extant," which did not perform well despite previous high expectations.
