'Empire' season 3 spoilers, plot news: What's next for the Lyons after the major cliffhanger in season 2? EPs gave hints on what fans should expect

Hit musical drama series "Empire" concluded its sophomore run with so many gasp-worthy moments along with a major cliffhanger in the last scene, and fans can only hope that season 3 will return very soon.

Fans were relieved when Jamal turned out okay after Freda accidentally shot him during the American Sound Awards' (ASA) red carpet event. In the penultimate episode, Freda was initially aiming for Lucious after finding out that he killed her father Frank Gathers, but Jamal got in her way, eventually taking the bullet for his father.

Apart from all the drama in Hakeem and Lauren's wedding, the major highlight of the finale was Anika and Rhonda's fight at the top of a building and Andre's reaction in the last scene as if someone fell from the place they were all in. EP Ilene Chaiken recently caught up with Deadline where she confirmed that one of them really went over the edge, but of course, she can't say who.

As for the plot for season 3, Chaiken is confident that they have already established how they want it to take shape. "Well, we're well into it. We've broken season arc, we've grouped in all of our colleagues at the studio and the network, and we've delivered some stories. We have written the work and we know the story we're telling you in Season 3," she said.

In an interview with TV Guide, producer Sanaa Hamri also gave her take on what fans will see as more drama unfolds among the members the Lyon family. "The first half of the second season was setting a lot of plotlines, infrastructure," Hamri explained. "It's a lot of information to get through to reap the benefits of the second half of the season. The family, as they get closer, it gets more dangerous as we get into season three. We're going to see what happened with what's dangling, with every skeleton falling out of every closet, and what they do with that information.

As of the moment, the network has yet to publicly announce the premiere date for "Empire" season 3, but it will surely return this coming Fall.
