'Empire' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Jussie Smollett teases new love interest for Jamal; Becky to leave Empire?

Jamal (Jussie Smollett) might be struggling to find his voice again after being tragically shot last season, but he will meet a dashing new love interest when hit Fox musical drama "Empire" season 2 returns later this month.

"Murder in the First" star Juan Antonio recently landed a role on the series as Phillip, Jamal's new boyfriend. He is a military vet running a PTSD counseling and support group where Jamal attends. "It's someone that for the first time, gives no fâ€”s about his fame," Smollett hinted. "Could not care less and not in a disrespectful way. He just genuinely is not affected by the money or the success or the fame and it's a very, very honest relationship."

Meanwhile, Jamal's best friend Becky (Gabourey Sidibe) will find herself in the middle of a tough situation in season 3. Her loyalty to the Lyons will be tested when her boyfriend J Poppa signs with a new recording label and asks her to leave Empire with him for good. "Becky has loyalty to this place," Sidibe told Entertainment Weekly. "Becky has loyalty to Lucious and all of the Lyons and she can't imagine leaving it. But she might have to start thinking about doing so."

After being left on the altar by Laura (Jamila Velazquez) last season, the youngest Lyon Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) will deal with his feelings by trying to get back with Tiana (Serayah). Unfortunately, Tiana already has a new boyfriend who happens to be Hakeem's rival rapper Gram (Romeo Miller). Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi was originally cast for the role and has already shot scenes for the upcoming season. He reportedly left the series due to "creative differences."

Joining the long list of celebrities joining this season is Sierra McClain, who will portray Shyne's (Xzibit) protÃ©gÃ©e Nessa. She becomes a love interest for one of the Lyon boys and since Jamal will meet a new boyfriend, Nessa might become involved with Hakeem or Andre (Trai Byers).
