'Empire' season 3 spoilers, news: Lucious prepares to take his new rival down in episode 4; Stars endorse Hillary Clinton in new ad

Things will start heating up in the upcoming episode of Fox's hit musical drama "Empire" season 3.
Titled "Cupid Kills," next week's episode will see Lucious (Terrence Howard) threatened by a new rival. According to the official synopsis, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Angelo (guest star Taye Diggs) will become closer than ever. Lucious finally recognizes Angelo as a formidable rival in his ex-wife's heart, so the villainous mogul will prepare to take him on.
Meanwhile, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) finally faces Freda Gatz (Bre-Z) after she unintentionally shot him last season. Their meeting will be a huge first step in his recovery, and it will help him try to perform again. Shortly after giving birth, Anika (Grace Byers) goes back to work at Empire but her first moments in the office will immediately cause some turmoil. Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) starts falling in love with Empire's new artist Nessa (Sierra McClain), despite the fact that she might be into a different Lyon.
On other related news, the "Empire" cast members recently voiced their support for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in an endorsement ad directed by the show's creator Lee Daniels. Cast members seen in the TV spot include Daniels, Henson, Gray, Smollett, Trai and Grace Byers, Gabourey Sidibe and Tasha Smith. The ad targets millennials and it centers on the theme of race.
"There's only one person in this race who said Black Lives Matter," Gray says after naming some of the African-American victims of gun violence including Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland and Freddie Gray. The video also referenced Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, with Trai Byers saying, "The violence and nasty rhetoric against mankind are unacceptable."
"If Trump gets into office," Henson tells viewers, followed by Smollett saying, "it will only get worse."
The third season of "Empire" airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
