'Empire' season 3 spoilers: First official photo revealed, Cookie and Lucious to reconcile?

A new poster for "Empire" has been released and it might give a clue on the upcoming third season's main storyline.

The first official photo for season 3 features the show's power couple Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). The music mogul has one hand over his ex-wife's shoulder, which could be read in many ways. Lucious might be reaching out to Cookie for a reconciliation, but it can also mean that he will still force himself into Cookie's life even if she said she's through with him.

Season 2 left off with Cookie storming off after Lucious married Anika (Grace Gealey) in an effort to keep her from testifying against him in court. Cookie was heartbroken over her ex-husband's decision and she made a clear statement about it in the finale by turning to her sons, saying: "I love you and I'll always do my best for my family, but your father and I are through."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Ilene Chaiken mentioned that Cookie will keep her word, but it remains to be seen where it will lead her. "She's not leaving the family; she's not leaving the company," Chaiken confirmed. "She and Lucious will always be in one another's lives and in one another's faces, but Cookie made a vow. And Cookie is a woman of her word so let's see what that vow looks like and what that turns out for her."

The Lyon sons will also face a lot of difficulties this season, particularly Hakeem who will still be reeling after his struggles in season 2. Aside from moving on after Laura (Jamila Velazquez) left him on their wedding day, he must build his reputation back up after multiple humiliations. According to Chaiken, the youngest Lyon is "going to come back fighting for respect," and he will use hip-hop to fight for the respect he deserves. Unfortunately, he might get in trouble by doing so. "He's going to come back strong but he might come back to some of his old ways because it didn't work out for him so well trying to really take the high road," the EP hinted.
