'Empire' season 3 spoilers: EP hints 'dark vs. light' battle to happen in the show, Cookie to stay away from Lucious after his marriage with Anika
Popular musical TV series "Empire" recently wrapped up its sophomore run, and season 3 will be nothing short of interesting as more drama is expected to ensue in the Lyon family.
The season 3 finale's major cliffhanger surely made fans curious of who died in the altercation between Anika and Rhonda. It remains to be seen who was pushed down from the top of the building, but there are some possible scenarios which fans can expect. Should Rhonda survive, she might call it quits with Andre. If Anika will live on, she will have to deal with Cookie, who is very protective of her family including her daughter-in-law.
As for how the whole season 3 will play out, executive producer Ilene Chaiken gave hints on what viewers could expect once the show returns on Fox. "What we're setting up is a battle of dark vs. light," Chaiken told TV Line. "Who are the Lyons and how will they continue to define themselves going forward? Can they ever change? Is Lucious the dark lord, pulling them all in the other direction? And really, where does Tariq fit in with all of this? I would venture that if Tariq really is Lucious' half-brother, there probably isn't a good one and a bad one."
Meanwhile, Lucious and Cookie's relationship seem to be getting better all throughout season 2, but last month's finale definitely took a turn for the worse. Anika was forced to marry Lucious so she could not testify against him in court, leading Cookie to stay away from her ex-husband. This issue will definitely be explored further in season 3. "The family is together, the company is together, and Lucious and Cookie will be in one another's faces and lives, but her [being finished with Lucious] is going to color everything," Chaiken hinted.
As of this writing, the network has yet to announce a definitive release date but the "Empire" is expected to return for its third season in the Fall.
