The season 3 premiere of "Empire" is just around the corner, and a new teaser featuring Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious' (Terrence Howard) teenage days has been released.

The past three seasons saw the ups and downs of the former couple's relationship but it seems they just can't let go of each other. In the trailer, the Cookie tells Lucious how his rap changed her life. After getting married to Anika (Grace Healey) last season, Lucious still hopes for a reunion with Cookie but it appears that his ex-wife is ready to move on. "It's always been Cookie and Lucious. Through crime, punishment, bloodshed. No matter what, we always find our way back together," Lucious tells Cookie. Unfortunately, Cookie does not feel the same way towards him anymore. "Things between me and you ain't the same," she says.

On another note, the show is currently facing a legal battle against ex-felon Sophia Eggleton who claims that the character of Cookie Lyon was copied from her 2009 memoir titled "The Hidden Hand." Eggleton, who was previously imprisoned because of manslaughter
and drug possession, successfully managed to fend off Fox's motion to dismiss her copyright claim against the hit musical drama. She has not yet fully prevailed in the lawsuit she filed but because of a ruling by Michigan federal judge Terrence Berg, Eggleton still has a chance of winning the case.

As the plaintiff points out, the "Empire" matriarch and her depiction of herself in "The Hidden Hand" have shocking similarities. Both women are light-skinned African-Americans who like wearing expensive clothes, are known for having gay relatives, have served time in prison, have led gangs, have a tendency to slap people and are known for "vicious insults." The judge's ruling can be read here.

Catch the season 3 premiere of "Empire" on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on FOX.
