'Empire' season 3 news, updates and plot rumors: Who will be the season's new Big Bad?
Hit musical drama "Empire" left its viewers with a major cliffhanger during the season 2 finale last week, and fans are still wondering who fell off the building in the episode's final scene.
Rhonda finally realized that it was Anika who pushed her down the stairs, causing her to lose her baby with Andre. Anika somewhat admitted that it was her all along, so they ended up fighting on the edge of a high building. Showrunner Ilene Chaiken obviously won't tell if one or both of them died, but she mentioned, "It sure as hell looks that way."
"One of them is simply going to win the fight, and the other is likely to be gone. It's in the hands of the gods, and whoever survives is going to have quite a story," she added. Before that incident, Hakeem and Laura were supposed to get married in a lavish ceremony. Cookie and Lucious invited Shyne Johnson who totally stole the attention of everyone as he entered the scene drunk with a bunch of hookers with him.
Given Shyne's backstory with Lucious and Cookie, he might be one of the characters fans should look out for as he will play a much bigger role in season 3. It's too early to tell if Shyne will be the upcoming season's Big Bad, since Lucious' half brother Tariq will also become his new adversary. He will surely give Lucious a difficult time since he is described as "extremely bright and supremely confident" and he is not afraid to show his real intentions. "We introduced two characters recently who'll be really important in Season 3," Chaiken explained. "One is Tariq, who'll be Lucious' big adversary. And the other is Shyne, who will be a really central character in that same story."
The FOX network has yet to officially announce a premiere date for "Empire" season 3, but the show will likely air sometime around late September.
