'Empire' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Jamal finds out about Cookie's history with Freda's father, one Lyon family member gets shot?

The second season of hit musical drama "Empire" is only one episode away from the finale, and a lot of loose ends are expected to be tied before the show comes to a close.
According to the official synopsis for this week's episode titled "Rise By Sin," Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will finally know why Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) is very worried about him being around Freda Gatz (Bre-Z). Early in the second season, Cookie asked Lucious to kill Frank Gathers (Chris Rock) who happens to be Freda's father. She fears that once Freda figures out that they plotted the murder of her father, she will retaliate against the Lyons.
Hakeem's (Bryshere Y. Gray) on and off relationship with Laura (Jamila Velazquez) is not helping him, especially now that he knows that he will have a child with Anika. He is still adjusting to his new role as a soon-to-be father, and it's starting to get in the way of his relationship with his fiancée. Meanwhile, his ex Tiana (Serayah) seems to be having feelings for him again and it might add to the pressure Hakeem is currently facing.
As seen in the promo clip, a member of the Lyon family might be in grave danger. While they are attending the American Sound Awards, a shooting happens and the video hinted that one of them might be killed off.
The summary for episode 17 reads:
"Hakeem feels the pressure of his underwhelming fiancé, Laura, as he struggles to find a place for her both in his family and his career. Cookie finally reveals to Jamal the truth behind what happened to Freda's father, prompting Jamal to warn Freda of his family's ulterior motives. Meanwhile, despite his frustration with the family, Jamal makes a sacrifice for Lucious from which it will be hard to recover."
Stay tuned for the last two episodes of "Empire" season 2 which airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on FOX.
