'Elena of Avalor' season 2 news: Series gets early renewal from Disney; Elena makes her park debut in Walt Disney World Orlando

Disney's first Latina princess continues her reign after "Elena Avalor" has been given an early season renewal by the popular kids network.

After a successful premiere last month, Disney recently gave the show a well-deserved season 2 renewal to tell more tales exploring the diverse Latin culture. Nancy Kanter, Disney Junior Worldwide's executive vice president for original programming, officially made the announcement in a press statement.

"It's just a few weeks into the launch of 'Elena of Avalor' and we are already seeing what an impact and connection she is making with kids and families," she said. "We're eager to make sure that we will have many new stories of bravery, adventure and leadership for our audience to enjoy and are delighted to begin production on our second season and continue to find ways for her story to be heard both on and off screen."

Taking place in the same universe as Disney's "Sofia the First," "Elena of Avalor" follows a teenage princess Elena Castillo Flores who bravely saved her kingdom from an evil sorceress. After proving her ability to lead, she must begin preparing to rule as the new crown princess. Her day-to-day adventures will help her realize the important characteristics her role requires including compassion, resilience, thoughtfulness and all other traits a great leader must possess. Elena's story incorporates influences from diverse Latin and Hispanic cultures by featuring its customs, music, cuisine, and folklore. Popular Latin music genres used in episodes include Chilean Hip Hop, Salsa, Mariachi, Banda and Latin Pop.

Today, Aug. 12, Walt Disney World Orlando officially welcomed Elena as a part of the popular theme park. A special presentation featuring a special song performance from Elena will be held at Cinderella's Castle. According to Fox News, Elena is the first Disney princess without a theatrical film release to make a regular appearance in the park. Stores inside the park will also start selling specialty merchandise including Elena's bejeweled crown and scepter, as well as her famous crimson dress.
