Fans of the contemporary TV adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" will soon return to CBS for its fifth season. So far, the network hasn't confirmed if "Elementary" has been renewed for a sixth season.

Most likely, the renewal for the sixth season will depend on the ratings of the fifth season, as it always does. However, fans shouldn't worry too much since the forthcoming season will reportedly have interesting storylines.

As previously reported, Joan Watson who is portrayed by Lucy Liu will be on the verge of quitting her job as an investigator. She will be yearning for her work as a surgeon because she was able to help a lot of people. She might even be missing her job as a sober companion in which she feels like she actually makes a difference in the lives of her clients.

Watson's colleague Sherlock Holmes, who is portrayed by Jonny Lee Miller, will be helping her regain her love for investigating. The veteran detective will be encouraging Watson to help Shinwell Johnson (Nelsan Ellis) transition back to regular life after a stint in jail.

However, Holmes will eventually see that the plan is a bad idea.

Previous reports suggested that "The Mentalist" actor Owain Yeoman will be appearing on the show's 100th episode. According to reports, the actor will portray a scientist who is also Holmes' former boarding school classmate. The detective will need his classmate's help in solving a murder case that has to do with asteroid and friendship, sources said.

However, the press release for the upcoming season revealed that the actor will not be a guest star. On the other hand, it has been confirmed that Matthew Del Negro will be guest star next season as Nathan Resor. He will be introduced in the premiere episode of the show.

The fifth season of "Elementary" will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
