'Elementary' season 5 news, spoilers: Is Joan Watson getting a new love interest?

"Elementary" creator Rob Doherty hinted that Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) will not be having a long-term relationship any time soon. The showrunners do not have plans of introducing a new love interest, as Watson will be too worked up with her career this season.
In the past seasons, fans of CBS' TV adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" were able to see how unlucky Watson was when it comes to love. Watson had a boyfriend, but the character was later killed off. Watson won't have time for love this season, as she will be too preoccupied with her career choice.
"No immediate plans for Joan. I'd say with Sherlock, we certainly owe a status report for the Sherlock/Fiona relationship," Doherty told Entertainment Weekly.
In a recent interview, Liu expressed that the character will have mixed feelings about her job as a detective.
Liu told EW, "She's got wanderlust in terms of a career. She was a surgeon, then she was a sober companion, then she left to be a detective, and he's a little concerned about that. She's saying no, but he sees that she may decide to leave."
Her partner, Sherlock Holmes, who is portrayed by Jonny Lee Miller, will attempt to rekindle her passion for this field. Holmes will reintroduce Watson to a former patient, Shinwell Johnson.
Johnson was Watson's former patient, whom she performed surgery on when he was a criminal. The two do not have a close relationship, but her saving his life allows both parties to connect with each other. Holmes will urge Watson to help Johnson reform himself. However, the character's baggage and his record as a criminal might totally end Watson's career in detective work.
Watson has been questioning her job because of the negativity that surrounds it and the heinous criminals whom they handle all the time.
Will Watson help this criminal to change? Or will she decide to move away from this line of work?
Viewers can get their answers in "Elementary" season 5, which returns on CBS every Sunday at 10 p.m.
