Officials blamed the terror group Boko Haram for a Friday bombing in the Nigerian city of Damaturu that was allegedly carried out by an elderly woman and a 10-year-old girl.

The blast on Friday occurred at an open air prayer area in Damaturu, killing 15 people when the elderly woman and the girl detonated their devices in two separate explosions.

As the Los Angeles Times reports, two other bombings also rocked Nigeria this week, including one at a market in Gombe, and one at a mosque.

Ahmad Adamu, an eyewitness of the attack on the prayer grounds described the incident to BBC News, saying "The first blast went off around 07:15 local time while security volunteers who had come earlier than worshippers were waiting for the worshippers so they could assist in crowd control."

"While we were attending to the victims we heard another blast about 500 metres (547 yards) away," he added.

Officials have accused Boko Haram of ramping up its attacks as Muslims in the nation finish their observance of Ramadan and begin the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria's president, said in a statement marking the celebration of Eid al-Fitr that he is dedicated to tackling the many issues Nigeria is facing.

"I was very aware of your high expectations when I assumed office and I reassure you, my fellow citizens, that since my inauguration [...] I have been working with utmost dedication to meticulously plan and tackle the many national challenges which we identified and promised to resolve," Buhari said.

"I also share the feelings of those who think that we should be moving faster. But I urge them and all Nigerians to trust that my commitment to real and positive change in our nation is as firm as ever," the president added.
