'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Release Date, Spoilers: The Women Are In Charge

"Downton Abbey" Season 5 is due to premier on PBS at 9/8c on Jan. 4, 2015, but the plot for the season is already widely known as the show is currently airing in the U.K.
At the beginning of Season 5, the women of Downton Abbey are now in charge with the exception of Lady Violet (played by Maggie Smith).
The premiere saw women such as Phyllis Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) and Sarah Bunting (Daisy Lewis) standing up for what is right and what they believe in.
Baxter finally took on Barrow (Rob James-Collier) and started off by telling Lady Cora (played by Elizabeth McGovern) that she was a thief in her previous workplace. Surprisingly, Cora ended up supporting Baxter.
Daisy (Sophie McShera) is still trying to improve her education and is busy with reading and math lessons.
This season will see her being tutored by Sarah Bunting, after which she will find that her skills in math have improved. As for whether Daisy will go to her father-in-law's farm to help manage it, is not clear.
More trouble is on the horizon for Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael). The fifth season will see her still hoping that Gregson (Charles Edwards) is alive while trying to remain close to her illegitimate daughter.
Down the line in the fifth episode, we will see Simon Bricker (Richard E. Grant) trying to seduce Cora, who refuses him.
Bricker and Cora's husband, Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), engage in a fistfight. Bricker falls down and is asked to leave.
However, before he leaves, he taunts Grantham, accusing him of ignoring Cora which, he said, is the reason why other men want to pay attention to her. This will spark tension in Cora and Robert's relationship.
In the sixth episode, Zap2it says Lady Edith will receive some upsetting news, and then take drastic steps which will cause a shock in the family.
