A double female suicide bomb blast killed 45 in Nigeria Tuesday in the latest attack attributed to the Boko Haram terrorism group.

The two women terrorists reportedly blew themselves up in a crowded marketplace in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State. People had been shopping in a local outdoor market when the blast occurred. The attack occurred mid-morning, a peak time for shoppers to take to the market in Maiduguri.

Health worker Dogara Shehu, a witness on the scene of the incident, told the AFP that she saw "45 people killed, some of them completely decapitated" from the violent blast.

Tuesday's blast is the latest of a series of terrorist attacks carried out by the local Boko Haram terrorist group, that has been able to wrestle parts of Nigerian territory from the government. Recently the terrorist group has seized another city in the country's northeast territory, and a similar attack was carried out at the same Maiduguri outdoor market back in July, killing 15 people.

Chris Olukolade, the country's military spokesperson, only commented on Tuesday's incident briefly, telling the Wall Street Journal: "We will keep up the fight against insurgents and continue to improve on our surveillance."

Another witness, Sani Adamu, told Reuters that the suicide bombers detonated their bombs at different times, possibly to ensure more casualties as people reacted from the first bomb.

"While the people were trying to help the injured, the second bomb blasted," Adamu told the media outlet, adding "I saw lots of bodies."
