Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has revealed in an interview how he changed his mind on abortion.

In an interview with Raymond Arroyo from EWTN, Trump explained that the biggest influence on his decision to become pro-life was his encounter with a "magnificent person" who was almost aborted.

Trump said that he knew a couple who argued over a pregnancy because one was pro-choice and the other was pro-life.

"One wanted to abort. And the other said, 'We can't do that. We're not going to do that.' Anyway, they had the baby. It was a long time ago. And the baby is such a magnificent person, who I know, a magnificent person. And the person that was actually pro-choice is now pro-life because of it, and it had a big effect on me," he recalled.

Trump has told the same story to CBN News' David Brody back in April 2011. The report from CBN noted that he has already considered running for president at the time.

The candidate noted that former President Ronald Reagan also changed from being pro-choice to pro-life.

Trump has made several promises to pro-life groups during his campaign. Last September, he wrote a letter to pro-life leaders urging them to join his campaign's Pro-Life Coalition.

He vowed to appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court and defund Planned Parenthood. He also promised to sign the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act into law.

Trump also wrote that he is committed to making the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal taxpayer money from funding abortions, into a permanent law.

In another part of the interview with Arroyo, Trump reiterated his promise to get rid of the Johnson Amendment, which prevents members of the clergy from endorsing political candidates in the church.

The Republican candidate also expressed his concern about ObamaCare. "Obamacare is killing our country. It's killing our jobs. It's a disaster. I've been saying it for a long time. I've been talking about it for a long time, before it was even approved," he said.
