The 10th season of popular British TV series "Doctor Who" is one of the most awaited shows to premiere, but fans will have to wait until next year before they get a glimpse of new episodes. However, there might be a silver lining because the show is expected to still air its annual Christmas special on Dec. 25.

As noted by Cultbox, "Doctor Who" is confirmed to have an 11th season which will premiere sometime in 2018. The show will have 12 episodes, along with its yearly Christmas episode. Meanwhile, there were talks of Peter Capaldi being replaced as the antagonist Doctor in the show. Rumor has it that the upcoming 10th season will be his last, but recent reports state otherwise. In the recently concluded Wizard World Con in New York city, former "Doctor Who" actors David Tennant and Matt Smith weighed in on a fitting Doctor, should TARDIS move to North America.

"I always think Peter Sellers would have made quite a good Doctor," Smith stated via Radio Times. Tennant went on to address the crowd, saying, "Do you know Bradley Whitford? He's my American Doctor." For the uninitiated, actor Bradley Whitford is popularly known for his role as Josh Lyman in the hugely successful TV drama "The West Wing."

As for Twelve's new companion, the character will definitely be a woman again. Fans bid goodbye to Clara Oswald (Jenna Louise Coleman) last season, and the show is confirmed to stick to its formula of having a male doctor with a female companion. "I think the companion has to be someone who's not so impressed by the Doctor - she's not an assistant, she's not a servant, she can't be that," showrunner Steven Moffat said in a report by Zap2It. "She has to be someone who really says, 'Are you sure that's the right thing to do? What are you doing?' and also doesn't take him seriously."

While waiting for "Doctor Who" season 10, fans can binge-watch seasons 1 to 8 as it is currently available on Amazon Prime.
