'Doctor Strange' news, spoilers: Director says film sets up the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse; second trailer debuts at Comic-Con

"Doctor Strange," the hotly anticipated new film from Marvel, will open up the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse, its director said.
In an interview with ComicBook.com during Comic-Con on Friday, July 22, "Doctor Strange" director Scott Derrickson said that the film embodies the "full weirdness" of the "mind blowing" "Doctor Strange" comic books, saying, "...this is the movie where Marvel goes full weird."
He also talked about what the film means for the rest of the cinematic franchise, saying that it will do for the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse what the comics did for the Marvel multiverse.
"I think 'Doctor Strange' is going to be the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse," he said. "It's really serving the same function that the comic did. Even though it was a weird aberration as a comic book, I think it was a real linchpin in the comics. It ended up being decades of new stories and I think this movie will do the same thing."
"Doctor Strange" will introduce the element of magic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the film, Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), a neurosurgeon, enters the world of magic and alternate dimensions after a car accident ruins his career and sets him off on a journey of healing.
In the new "Doctor Strange" trailer revealed at Comic-Con, Strange is seen training under the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) and being counseled by Wong (Benedict Wong) and Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
Viewers also glimpse the vehicular accident that renders Strange unable to perform surgery and Strange's training under the tutelage of the Ancient One.
The new trailer also reveals the film's main villain, Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen), who wreaks havoc on New York City along with his minions.
"I am Death and Pain," Kaecilius says in the clip. "You'll die protecting this world."
In addition, the trailer gives Marvel fans a longer peek at Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), Strange's fellow surgeon and possible love interest.
"Doctor Strange" hits theaters Nov. 4.
Here's what I know. Cable is the hottest role in Hollywood. The line goes out the door and off the lot. Believe it!
