'Doc McStuffins' season 4 news: Disney Junior series premieres July 29, social media campaign for season 5 renewal trends online

Disney Junior's adorable TV series "Doc McStuffins" recently had everyone talking because of its rumored cancellation after season 4 which led to a social media campaign aiming to keep the show on air.
The campaign began when stand-up comic and CNN host W. Kamau Bell addressed his concerns over the show not being renewed for season 5 via Twitter. To let Disney know how important the lead character to children is, Bell urged his Twitter followers to use the hashtag #RenewDocMcStuffins. The message quickly trended and soon, notable personalities like writer Roxane Gay and Broadway star Audra McDonald shared how the program has influenced the young kids in their families.
"Doc McStuffins" first aired in 2012 and the story follows a young African-American girl named Dottie who loves to play as doctor to her stuffed animals and toys. Creator Chris Nee came up with the idea because of her son who has severe asthma and usually shows anxiety around doctors. The series portrays women in powerful roles including Dottie's mother who is a doctor, and one episode even featured US First Lady Michelle Obama.
Since fans may be wondering if the show will ever go beyond season 4, Disney released a statement regarding the possibility of more seasons in the future via The Huffington Post which reads:
"We have a long term content plan in place and are in production on season four which will deliver new episodes through late 2017/early 2018, bringing us to a total of 120 episodes. We will make a determination about going beyond this number of episodes at the appropriate time during the production process."
The show returns with all-new episodes later this month and celebrities including Amber Riley, Ludacris and Anthony Anderson have been confirmed to guest star. Episode 1 is titled "Welcome to McStuffinsville," and the synopsis reads:
"Doc's grandmother transports Doc to the magical world of McStuffinsville where she will carry on a family tradition by expanding her practice to the McStuffins Toy Hospital. There, on her first day as chief resident, Doc must tend to Stanley, a lonely, brokenhearted toy."
"Doc McStuffins" season 4 will premiere on Friday, July 29 at 9 a.m. EDT on Disney Junior.
