'Destiny: Rise of Iron' DLC release date news 2016: DLC to launch next month; 'Destiny 2' to launch next year

With less than a month away from releasing a downloadable content (DLC) expansion for the first-person shooter game "Destiny," game developer Bungie shared the upcoming DLC's features.
The DLC was named entitled "Destiny: Rise of Iron," and the creators recently released a trailer for the expansion to reveal the DLC in all its glory. The trailer showed new armor, new gear and new artifacts, but most importantly, the expansion will delve deeper into the world of "Destiny."
Game director Christopher Barrett explained in the recently released trailer for the expansion that "Rise of Iron" will explore the story that existed in the Destiny universe. "It's this journey to understand the past" to uncover what had happened to the great heroes, he said. Barrett added, "In that process, you're saving humanity, you're becoming an iron lord yourself, you're getting to yield a giant axe."
The Crucible will also feature new maps and a new game mode called Supremacy. Senior director Derek Carroll said that this is a fast-paced game mode wherein players will fight for crests. To earn points, players need to pick up crests. To get a crest, players need to kill their enemies.
Moreover, the developers added a new raid called Wrath of the Machine in which players will be chased by a gigantic machine with a spiked-ball on its arm. In this particular scene, developers intended the players to experience the tension of being chased.
For $29.99, gamers can pre-order the DLC for Xbox One from the Microsoft Store. PlayStation 4 gamers can pre-order it on the PlayStation Store, on Game or on Amazon. "Destiny: Rise of Iron" DLC will launch on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Video game publisher Activision announced that a sequel "Destiny 2" is currently in the works and is expected to release in 2017.
