'Destiny 2' release date news: Set for 2017, More DLCs slated to arrive later this year

Fans of "Destiny" will have to wait a year longer for the game's sequel because Activision confirmed a 2017 release, with only new DLC updates to anticipate this year.
Software company Bungie confirmed via its weekly update that a sequel to the game is definitely in progress and game updates should be anticipated. "Prior to the holiday break we mentioned a second, larger update slated for Spring. That content release will feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability. Beyond that, the team is focused on delivering a large expansion later this year, and a full Destiny sequel in 2017," Bungie explained.
In a report from Gamerant, fans of the game should also await an experience "larger than anything you've seen since the release of The Taken King." Given the length of time it consumes to make endgame experiences, fans expect higher in the upcoming release from Bungie.
Rumor has it that a Cabal-themed content is in progress, but Bungie is not giving away too much detail. "There's a whiteboard in one of our meeting rooms filled with scribblings and sticky notes that represent the developments planned for Destiny's not-so-distant future. Events, activities, content, and features designed to keep you happy, entertained and rewarded throughout the year to come: some events and some activities that will become additions to your Director," as stated by Senior Designer Derek Carroll.
A leak from reliable tipster "Geno" recently surfaced, concerning the new Destiny game to be called "Beyond Destiny," plus rumors that Nintendo is currently convincing Activision to release it in the company's upcoming console. Bungie's Eric Osborne gave his side via Twitter, saying "After a few fun years in the industry, I am well Beyond rumor and speculation. I wish you were 2!"
