Hit Korean TV series "Descendants of the Sun" ended last week, and fans still can't get enough of the show. Even before the finale aired, there have been speculations that it will have another season due to its success.

South Korea's national broadcaster KBS recently confirmed that the network is already planning for another "Descendants of the Sun," and it is expected to be out some time around 2017. However, it remains to be unclear if the new project will be a sequel or a different show inspired by the original series. "We are creating the second 'Descendants of the Sun,'" KBS drama department head Jung Sung-hyo stated. In terms of the writer and main cast's response, he clarified that "nothing has been set in stone," but so far, their talks have been "positive." "We can't say they are in for certain because actors don't make such decisions until they read the script," he added.

Show producer Lee Eung-bok previously admitted that doing a season 2 with all the main cast members might be difficult because of their busy and conflicting schedules."Season 2 would be nice, but I don't know about its possibility," the producer explained. "We'd have to keep all the main cast, whose schedules won't be easy to coordinate. We'd also need the two writers again, and that might be hard."

Meanwhile. a Chinese version of the series is also set to be produced. Unbeknownst to many, China has been an essential part of the South Korean television industry. Just recently, Chinese media company Huace Film & TV became the top 2 stockholder of South Korean production company NEW, which is also the company behind "Descendants of the Sun."

Reports say that the stockholder invested a whopping 53.5 billion won, which was used to fund the show's production. This would not be the first time that a South Korean show has been adapted by Chinese TV networks. "Running Man" recently had a Chinese version, and "Descendants of the Sun's" very own Song Joong-ki is said to be in the show.
