'Descendants 2' spoilers, cast news: Lineup revealed; 3 new characters added

Disney Channel's widely popular 2015 original movie "Descendants" is about the teenage sons and daughters of Disney's infamous villains, and the cast for the upcoming 2017 sequel has been revealed.

According to Yahoo! TV, the returning cast members include Dove Cameron ("Liv and Maddie") as Maleficent's daughter Mal, Sofia Carson ("Adventures in Babysitting") as the Evil Queen's daughter Evie and Cameron Boyce ("Jessie") as Cruella De Vil's son Carlos.

Meanwhile, the newest additions are China Anne Mclain ("Grown Ups") as Ursula's daughter Uma, Thomas Doherty ("The Lodge") as Captain Hook's son Harry and Dylan Playfair ("Some Assembly Required," "Mr. Hockey") as Gaston's son Gil.

Aside from "Descendants 2," Playfair is also set to appear in the soon-to-be-aired Netflix series "Travelers," Miranda Sings' sitcom "Haters Back Off" plus an upcoming feature with the Vicious Brothers. Other cast members include Booboo Stewart as Jay ("Twilight") and Mitchell Hope ("Down The Way") as King Ben.

In the new photo for the upcoming sequel, the four leads Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are all set for more action. The first movie left off with the seemingly happy ever after for King Ben and Mal, along with Mal's wink to the cameraâ€”hinting that the story is far from over. In a press statement, Disney promises fans that the sequel "turns the page to reveal a whole new level of mystery and surprise." More details on the new plot are expected to be released in the coming months.

"Descendants 2" is currently in the early stages of production and is set to premiere. To date, Disney has yet to announce an official release date. Kenny Ortega will be returning as director, executive producer, and choreographer, along with executive producer Wendy Japhet and scriptwriters Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon.
