Democratic Senator Says GOP Effort to Defund Planned Parenthood 'Makes Her Head Explode'
A Democratic senator has recently sent a letter to supporters saying the GOP effort to federally defund Planned Parenthood "makes [her] head explode."
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) recently sent a fundraising letter to her supporters criticizing GOP lawmakers who are pushing to federally defund Planned Parenthood following the release of multiple undercover videos that show executives with the abortion organization discussing the costs associated with the procurement of aborted fetal tissue.
"Right now, Republicans in Washington are pushing legislation allowing employers to fire single women for getting pregnant — AND they're leading an 'investigation' to undercut Planned Parenthood," Gillibrand wrote in the fundraising letter, published by The Weekly Standard.
"I'm confident that if we had more women leading in Washington, we would not still be dealing with the right wing's efforts to trample women's health care," she added.
The activist group Center for Medical Progress has recently released four videos that are meant to uncover the inner workings of Planned Parenthood. In two of the four videos, executives at the organization discuss the costs associated with obtaining, preserving and transporting aborted fetal body parts.
While Planned Parenthood maintains that it makes no profit off of the donation of fetal body parts, several lawmakers have called on Congress to defund the abortion provider and also conduct an investigation into the company.
Another democratic politician, Hillary Clinton, has also spoken out against the recent videos, calling them "disturbing" and suggesting that the whole system of body tissue donation be revised.
